Erhu Rhapsody No.3 (第三二胡狂想曲)

A contemporary work written in 2003, Erhu Rhapsody No. 3 contains thematic material from minority Xinjiang folk music with a variety of dance-like rhythms and frequent modal changes which depicts the lifestyle and the alluring scenery of Xinjiang. A range of techniques were explored in this piece including some that were considered to be nontraditional like percussive effects produced by lifting the bow and hitting the resonator box with the stick. Pizzicato and harmonics, both natural and artificial, were also employed to the piece.
